One of the most effective ways to establish good preventative care is to come twice a year for regular check ups. During these checkups, x-rays may be taken as needed, in addition to a thorough examination to check for pits and early signs of decay. Steps can then be taken to stop the decay and prevent the need for further intervention. Other things we look for during a regular check up are signs of teeth grinding, wear, cracks in the teeth, infection, gum disease, and signs of oral cancer.
Bleeding gums is a common problem, but it warrants attention and action. It is a sign of periodontal gum disease, which is caused most commonly by subpar oral hygiene. There are difficult to reach areas that may not be getting cleaned properly, despite regular brushing and flossing.
Regular cleanings with our registered dental hygienists can help thoroughly clean your teeth and gums as well as providing tips on how to improve your home regimen.
If you are due for your regular check up or are experiencing bleeding gums, please contact our office to set up an appointment for a cleaning.
Bleeding gums can also be due to gingivitis from other causes such as medications, genetics, and pregnancy.
